The Aksara Design System was born from a commitment to long-term design scalability. Recognizing the potential challenges associated with maintaining consistency across a growing product suite, we embarked on the creation of a comprehensive design language system. This centralized and authoritative resource serves as a single source of truth for all design elements, ensuring seamless visual harmony throughout our products.
Why Aksara?
Aksara /ak·sa·ra/ noun is a visual symbol, usually stamped on paper or other media (stone, wood, leaf, and fabric), to express thoughts and ideas.
We chose the name Aksara because we want our design system to help developers, designers, and all other functions across the organization to express their thoughts and ideas into tangible, consistent, and efficient digital products.
Summaries
The rapid growth of digital products and the people behind them presents a significant challenge that may become increasingly problematic in the future. The absence of visual UI standards, lack of communication, and fragmented products can hinder the creation of unified experiences.
To build cohesive digital products, it is essential to establish not only a design system but also a solid and collaborative workflow culture that involves designers, engineers, and all stakeholders within the company.
One of the key challenges in developing a design system is ensuring its organic growth and establishment as a single source of truth within the organization. This requires active involvement and ongoing contributions from all team members. By encouraging participation and soliciting input from various perspectives, the design system can evolve and adapt to the changing needs of the organization.
